In March 2024, iSocialPR celebrated 10 years in business—and wow, what a journey it’s been. My first year, I made $5K. I was so proud. My very first client? A catering company that hired me as a catering admin assistant, then fired me. But they believed in my social media work and rehired me as a contractor. That experience taught me so much about perseverance, relationships, and business.

Here are 10 lessons I’ve learned over the last decade:

1⃣ The Importance of Giving First Chances
When I graduated, I struggled to find a job in marketing because I had zero experience. But one person gave me a shot, and that chance changed my life. Now, I make it my mission to bet on people. Through internships and entry-level roles, I give others the chance to thrive—with the right mentorship and support.

2⃣ The Importance of Pivoting
Ten years ago, Facebook didn’t really have an algorithm, and organic growth was easy. But as organic reach started to decline, we had to pivot. I didn’t want to trick the algorithm—I wanted to embrace change. Adding Facebook and Instagram ads to our services helped us stay competitive and deliver growth for our clients.

3⃣ Invest in the Right Team Members
Most people try to hire the most experienced candidates they can afford. My approach? I look for people who are coachable, curious, and ambitious. Those are the ones who grow with the company, make their role their own, and bring fresh ideas to the table. I also made a point to invest in their personal growth with courses, conferences, and mentorship opportunities.

4⃣ Always Overdeliver
I learned early on that when my clients succeed, I succeed. Some clients were ready to scale right away; others needed help closing leads. Whether it was adding a free email drip campaign or coaching them through their lead pipeline, we made sure to do what was necessary to push them forward.

5⃣ Ending Bad Relationships is Okay
I once heard that cutting off bad client relationships is the “most millennial thing ever.” And you know what? It’s true. I prioritize my team over clients. Rude, condescending, or aggressive clients? Not a fit for us. I’ve learned that no amount of money is worth a toxic relationship that drains our energy and makes us question our value.

6⃣ Establish SOPs So You Don’t Stop the Show
As my company grew, I realized I couldn’t be everywhere at once. Creating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) allowed me to delegate effectively and continue growing the business without being the bottleneck.

7⃣ Work with Clients Who Value You
If someone doesn’t value your services when they hire you, they won’t value them when the project ends. I’ve learned to set boundaries and only work with clients who respect what we bring to the table.

8⃣ Choose Clients Who Align with Your Values
The first time we made a client $1M in sales, I was thrilled to see the positive impact it had on their business. But it also made me think: What if that success went toward something we didn’t align with, like private prisons? That moment taught me to be more selective about who we work with. We focus on partnering with businesses that pour into resilient communities and provide opportunities for others.

9⃣ Invest in Education and Resources
If you don’t seek knowledge, it won’t fall into your lap. I made a commitment to constantly learn, whether through conferences, courses, or other resources. Staying ahead of industry trends is how we stay innovative and deliver the best results for our clients.

Being an Entrepreneur is About Serving
I gave and gave with what I had. If someone couldn’t afford to hire us, I connected them with resources, encouraged them, and reminded them that they can do this. I truly believe being an entrepreneur is about serving others. I feel closest to God when I’m walking in my purpose—and this journey has been such a blessing.

Looking back, I’m so proud of how far we’ve come and grateful for every lesson along the way. Here’s to the next decade of growth, giving, and serving!

Are we finally going back to normal? Summer is officially here! We’ve made it through another rough winter, which was only made rougher by the pandemic. Most states are partially or fully open. It seems that after a lengthy lockdown we deserve to go out and celebrate every day! But what about your business? Do you have a reason for celebration?

The pandemic struck all business owners and individuals by surprise and nobody expected it to last that long. Even though it provided a lot of sorrow, those who didn’t break became more resilient. It’s safe to say that we all mastered video conferencing tools and remote work. What did the harsh times of the pandemic give you in terms of valuable lessons and takeaways?

The pandemic showed us that nothing is ever set in stone. Though planning and organization are valuable skills for any manager, so are flexibility and openness to change. You can plan all you want, but things happen and you have to adjust. What changes have you made to the way you run your business? Will these changes help you make it through another state of emergency, be it a global pandemic or a fast approaching deadline?

Do you think that we will ever go back to normal? Maybe, from the ashes of the pandemic emerges a new normal. We have learned to take better care of our bodies, and made keeping the safety of customers and staff a priority. We now understand the importance of hygiene in the workplace and at home. Finally, we have learned that being able to adapt to the situation is often far more valuable than sticking to the plan.

With our country’s return to normal or the rise of a new normal, we want to encourage you to implement the lessons you learned last year and, most importantly, stay safe!

As always, time seems to be flying and the second quarter of 2021 has begun. This is the time to celebrate your milestones and get in touch with your goals for the year. Who said that the beginning of the year is the only time you can set new goals for your business? You can do so any time of year, and the beginning of the second quarter seems as good a time as any!

Remind yourself of the goals you set for your business a few months ago. Have you made any progress with them? Are you following the action plan you’ve created to achieve those goals? Is there anything else you can do right now to bring you one step closer to achieving them? Oftentimes, the journey is more important than the destination. Don’t beat yourself up if you’re not where you thought you’d be. Remember to celebrate the progress!

If you’re on track, perhaps it’s time to set some new and more challenging goals. And if you feel as though you’re falling behind, you can reevaluate your position on the market and create new goals that will be more in line with your current situation. Think of something that will drive progress and push you to move forward. It can be as simple as increasing your Instagram following by 1,000 followers or challenging yourself to post one blog a week. Depending on the size of your business, these numbers can look very different.

Moving forward without a clear plan can be quite difficult. Take the time to evaluate how far you’ve come already and celebrate your wins. Don’t forget to assess your plans and remind yourself where you’d like to be at the end of the year 2021.

As a fellow entrepreneur, who has been in business for over a decade, I have made my fair share of mistakes. In fact, I’ve made enough mistakes for both of us, and I would like to share some of my best tips for mistakes to avoid below. So, here are 5 common business mistakes that you can make!

1) Don’t fear failure. – Entrepreneurship in and of itself is a risk, so congrats on being a risk-taker! Whenever you do something new, there will always be a learning curve, and failure can make a great teacher. Some of my best lessons have come because of failures, and those lessons taught me how to bounce back stronger and better, so don’t be afraid to fail.

2) Don’t undersell yourself. – When starting a business, it can be very hard to know how to price your products or services. So many people just want ANY sell, so they may be willing to undervalue or undersell themselves and their offerings. Don’t be that person!! Know your target market, and priced accordingly. If your friends and family think your prices are too high, they may not be your target. Know your worth… and add tax!

3) Don’t throw money away. – In business, you can feel pressure to look like you “have it all together”. You want the logo, the website, the branding, the merchandise, the team, etc. and all these things cost money. It’s important to do your research to know what you need and WHEN. In technology, they have a term called a Minimal Viable Product, or MVP, which basically strips things down to the ESSENTIALS. Ask yourself, have you wasted money by putting the cart before the horse?

4) Don’t avoid contracts. – Contracts can be intimidating and feel overly “official,” especially when working with people you know, but money can ruin relationships. By not having contracts and accepting someone’s word, you’re putting yourself and your business at risk. I have learned this lesson the hard way, so please take my word, and get it IN WRITING.

5) Don’t try to do everything yourself. – When you first start a business, you’re usually wearing all the hats. You’re the CEO, marketing team, design team, shipping and handling, customer service, etc. As your business progresses, it’s important to focus your energy on your area of expertise and outsource to experts to focus on their areas of expertise. This may cost more, but the right professionals on your team will help expand your profit with their professional knowledge.

Avoiding these 5 common business mistakes will make your life easier and prevent you from faltering at important steps in your budding business.

Thanks to the team at iSocialPR, you don’t have to make these same mistakes in 2021. We have a dedicated knowledgeable team of professionals ready to help you take your business to the next level. Let us help you develop a digital marketing plan that’s built to last!

2020 is in review! Now is a great time to recap the year with your audience. Take this time to remind them of your products and services while being personable and transparent. Reach out to your audience whether it be on your website, social media accounts, or an email newsletter. An end-of-the-year check-in has never been more important than after the year we just had.

Be Honest

2020 was one of the most trying years globally in recent history. Be honest with your audience. If you didn’t have a great year, that’s ok. If you do have some good news to share, don’t feel guilty that many people didn’t have a great year. Take the chance to spread some cheer and joy.

When you are recapping your year the best approach is to be personable. Yes, you are running a business, but take this as an opportunity to put some personality into your business. People will love relating directly to you, which could improve your business’ success in the new year. Now, more than ever, people are looking to put a face to the name behind their favorite businesses.

What’s Next?

After putting 2020 in review, it is time for the next steps. Go ahead and share with your audience how 2020 has been for you, and how you made it through COVID-19 professionally and personally. COVID-19 has been something the entire world can bond over, and it’s ok to give your experiences. Don’t forget to include your favorite business moments from the last year. If you saw people pull together or even had other businesses pull together in your industry, acknowledge that and be sure to give some thanks to those that helped you during 2020!

It’s ok to include a note about your plans for the new year and the direction your business is heading. Think of this as the time to just do a check-in with your customers and audience. Recap last year and give them something encouraging to look forward to next year!

We’re now in the fourth quarter of 2020, which means it’s time to check in with yourself to make sure that you wrap up the year on a positive note, both personally and professionally. This year has been interesting for all of us to say the least, but despite the challenges you may have faced in 2020, you deserve to walk away feeling confident and accomplished! Here are a few ways you can be sure you’re starting off the fourth quarter on the right foot and ending out the year with a bang!

Set Your Intentions

What do you want to accomplish in 2021, and what steps do you need to take in the next three months to make your goals a reality? Maybe you want to launch a blog for your business, so you could dedicate these next few months to gathering ideas for posts, making a consistent posting schedule, or talking to professionals about content strategy.

Try choosing a word, such as “inspire”, “courage”, or “balance” to guide your personal or professional decisions these next few months. Whatever your goals may be, try to be as clear, consistent, and concise as possible. Don’t overwhelm yourself with a list of to-do’s before the end of the year. Instead, focus on a handful of goals that are challenging yet doable.

Take Stock of Your Accomplishments

You have likely already achieved a few goals this year, even if they’ve been small. We tend to underestimate our own achievements and get discouraged by what lies ahead, so make list of a few things you’ve done this year and reflect on how far you’ve come! Has your business reached a wider audience? Have you made a positive change to your diet? Accomplishments can even be as small as finishing a book that’s been on your reading list forever.

While it’s important to look ahead to what we’d like to do, it’s just as crucial to recognize the challenges we’ve conquered so that we can be encouraged to move forward and have a better understanding of what next steps to take.

Get A Social Media Audit

Getting a social media audit for your business’s page is the perfect way to see what you are doing well and what you could improve in your content marketing. iSocialPR offers audits for Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, and sponsored posts on Facebook and Instagram, providing detailed outlines that give you strategies to increase engagement, followers, and sales.
We are in very scary times. To be honest, I am scared and I don’t know what to expect. The current situation affects us all in one way or another. Some worst than others. COVID-19 has an impact on many businesses.

Today, I am going to share with you some ideas and tips that you can implement in your marketing strategy to accommodate what’s going on in the world. Basically, how our digital marketing agency is pivoting with Covid.

The first and most important one is to keep your attitude optimistic. You have to stay positive! Take this time while “quarantining” to regroup and review your goals as a company. Be patient, be compassionate, and be creative!

Now, more than ever, it is important to focus on your customers’ needs. Now is the time to reevaluate your current marketing strategy and to improve it. You can reframe the plan that you are following and adapt it to Covid – 19. It’s best to acknowledge the feelings of your customer base.

Research more and be proactive. Find new ways of possible opportunities. Use Design Thinking Methods for a better understanding of your target audience and to respond accurately to their needs.

Use this moment to build an authentic connection with your customers. Be present in the digital world. Use social media channels to keep them updated with your business. Provide some interesting insights about your company. Use Instagram Stories and Facebook Live to create an attractive way to introduce your team to your audience. You can also show the process of creating your product.

Next, highlight the advantages your company provides in times of a crisis. Your audience is scared and anxious too. Touch on what you’re doing to ensure the safety of your customers.

Lastly, try to adjust your marketing plan and actions in the best possible way in order to achieve your goals. Take this period to improve the processes within the company and finally, get ready for better times because they are coming really soon! That is how we are pivoting with Covid!

When creating a post on social media you may ask yourself “How can I reach my client?” There are many important factors in creating a post that resonates with your audience. You must know who they are to determine what they like and what they need to feel to build trust. The more you resonate with your audience the more likely your potential client will be to select your company when they are looking for your services.

Here are a few tips on ways you can learn more about your potential clients:

Engage with your clientele.

Engage with them one on one when they subscribe, follow, or inquire about your product or service. By doing this, your clients will feel catered too because you show that you care about their input. It’s also beneficial to you because you can improve your business based off of their feedback.

Send out a survey to your clients.

You can do this by sending out emails to your direct mailing list or providing a direct link on your business page. This will help you to understand what your clients/customers want and need specifically.

Study your competition.

In business, there will always be someone offering similar products or services. As you study your competition, take notes on what they’re missing from their business and try to fill the void within yours. Also, see what’s working for them and try it in your company.

Pay attention to your likes and interactions.

Constantly look at your likes, interactions, and engagements when posting on your social media business page or business website. This will keep you updated on what your clients/customers are looking for specifically. Do more of what they like and less of what they don’t want.

Successful businesses are built around what customers need. Use these strategies to help you to improve your business by understanding who you’re marketing too. Also, it is important that you continue to do your own research as well when trying to understand your customers.

How do you get to know your potential customers?
